My Big Brother Fights Monsters

This is the original 10-minute performance titled "My Brother Is" from April 2019

My Big Brother Fights Monsters is an autobiographical one-woman show that explores the meaning the playwright's dead brother's childhood possessions hold for her. Why do we assign such deep meaning to objects, if they do not and can never add up to the people or memories we lost? Should we keep only the things that spark joy, as decluttering guru, Marie Kondo suggests, or is there more to it? In the piece, the playwright almost literally steps into her brother's shoes to become him onstage and interact with her childhood self.
