Criticism

I began stretching into the world of theatre criticism in 2024 writing for Stage and Cinema, and since then it has been a constant process of learning that there are constantly more things to learn.

I see criticism as an extension of dramaturgy. As a critic, I'm analyzing a single performance from my seat in the audience. I always approach a performance with curiosity, and I'm looking to answer a combination of these three questions in any review: What are these artists trying to do? How well do they do it? And is it worth it?

I am working to learn more of the many things I don't know about criticism, but I will sometimes be wrong or under-informed. I am under no illusion that my opinion is the right one. The best I can do is try to articulate what I see onstage from my own perspective and bank of artistic and cultural knowledge. I hope it can add some level of value to the conversation.
