Endlessly Failing to save the world

Kariko_1_2023.jpg

In 1989, Katalin Kariko imagines a future where mRNA is used to manufacture insulin for diabetics, fight cancer cells, and even create a vaccine for HIV. In the minds of her colleagues, that future is impossible—not even worth pursuing. Katalin endures decades of professional humiliation with relentless determination, convinced her research will save lives, and in 2020, when a global pandemic upends the world, she proves herself right.
